Bonus: Season 1's Stories

In this bonus episode, we put all the stories from season 1 and a bonus story together. Also, all the characters from season 1 are here.

Welcome to the Kids' Code Podcast. I'm Barnabas, your host, and this bonus episode includes all the stories from season 1, starting with the one from episode 1, Morse Code. I hope you like it.

Steve has intercepted a message from a villain called the Evil Ant in Morse Code. He couldn't seem to decode the message, so he asked his partner Dan for help in a letter. This is what he wrote.

Dear Dan,
SOS! I can't read a letter from the Evil Ant! Do you think you might have the key?
       Steve

P.S.- I think it is in Morse Code, but the paper might be in another code.

A few days later Steve got a message from Dan. It read:

Dear Steve,
I think I do have the key. If it had dots after symbols, letters, and words it's "dotty" Morse Code. 1 dot between symbols, 3 between letters, and 7 between words. There are also 2 older versions - it might be American Morse or whatever the other one was called. It used to be that sometimes dots were very short dashes.

Steve soon cracked the message. it was in American Morse and said:

The story from episode 2, Pigpen & Rosicrucian Cipher.

Steve and Dan are at the HQ taking orders from Codemaster Cole, the leader of the spy ring.

Go and get me a coded secret message in Pigpen from over there so that we can crack it

Said Codemaster Cole. They looked for it, but they couldn't find any secret messages in Pigpen. They told him, and he said

You didn't look.

Steve  04:58
Yes, we did. There wasn't any message in Pigpen there.

Barnabas  05:04
Codemaster Cole went to look, and quickly came back with a sheet of paper.

Dan  05:11
That's not Pigpen, that's Rosicrucian Cipher.

Codemaster Cole  05:17
Whatever. Let's sit down and decipher it.

Barnabas  05:24
They were siting down to decipher it when Dangerous Dave and Emily End, 2 badguys, came in.

Dangerous Dave  05:37
Aha! we finally found your headquarters. Where is the message that I sent to Horrible Hal about robing a bank? You must have intercepted it because he hasn't gotten it.

Barnabas  06:00
Before the good spies could say anything Fred Fine, a police officer, came in.

Fred Fine  06:13
Aha! I finally found where your headquarters is. Now I can arrest you. That's what the police officer does when he finds the criminals, right?

Steve  06:29
No. We're the goodguys. They're the badguys trying to get a secret message telling another of their spies where a robbery that they're going to do later is going to be.

Just then, Emily End grabbed a laser and zapped Fred Fine and the goodguys. THE END.
Wait! No, that's not what happened!

Evil Ant 07:04
Argh! I dropped my mind control ray!

Stop it, Evil Ant. So, actually  what happened was that Fred arrested Emily End and Dangerous Dave and was going to take them to prison, but Dangerous Dave escaped. Then, he, Codemaster Cole, Steve, and Dan deciphered the message. It said that the badguys were going to try to rob the museum.

The story from episode 3, the history of concealment.

Fred Fine and the other police officers are investigating how Emily End seems to be sending and receiving messages. They had to look carefully check everything that she received. The first thing was a sweater that for some reason was covered in knots. They looked at it to try to see if there was anything that could help them figure out what seemed to be a secret message. Then, Police Chief Al, who was the police chief, said

I know. Let's put it  up to that wall with the alphabet on it that just appeared from nowhere and see if we can figure out the message.

They did this, and discovered that it was a secret message, and it said

The main window on the east side of the prison easily comes out.

They fixed the window and kept on looking. A few days later, somebody sent Emily End an old order for cigars. They looked at it, and Fred had an idea.

Might the numbers be a code, like, numbers or something like that?

They tried this, and one of those codes worked, and the message was:

Dear Emily End,
  I will try to think of a way to get you out of prison.
         Evil Ant

After that message, they made everyone keep close guard on the prison and very, very carefully inspect every single letter Emily End got. Then, one day, Emily End got a letter which didn't seem very suspicious, but Fred Fine noticed

Hey - isn't that part the Evil Ant's handwriting? And isn't that part Dangerous Dave's writing? There's got to be something up with it.

They looked at it, to try to figure it out, but they couldn't see any possible code with it. They checked all sorts of Null Ciphers, all sorts of other ciphers and codes, but they couldn't see anything. Then Fred had an idea.

Fred Fine  11:15
Hey - what if it is secret inks? Secret inks could be hidden in lots of places on the page, and that is probably on of the best concealments.

Barnabas  11:32
They started looking for secret inks. First they tried wax, then jam, then Fred had another idea.

Fred Fine  11:43
Hey - what about the onion juice kind of thing?

They tried that, and that worked. The message said:

Dear Emily End,

Dangerous Dave  11:56
If you can, be at the window on the west side of the jail tonight at midnight. You will hear a small beep, then throw down a rope or something. and attach it at your end. We'll attach it at the bottom so that you can climb down. Then we'll escape into the night.

Dangerous Dave.

At midnight, the police officers stood around the window. One of the badguys came up to try to loosen the window from the outside, and they scared him away.

The Story from episode 4; Null Ciphers.

The good guys (particularly Fred Fine, Police Chief Al, Steve, Dan, Caw the Crow, Great Greg [who is Caw the Crow's partner], and Codemaster Cole) were getting ready to sneak into the museum so that they could catch the badguys.

Codemaster Cole  13:18
Hey everyone, we've got to go very quietly and carefully into (and in) the museum.

Barnabas  13:32
Said Codemaster Cole.

Caw the Crow  13:37
Okay.

Barnabas  13:39
Said Caw the Crow. They snuck in and started waiting for the badguys to arrive. While most of them listened for sounds, Great Greg and Fred Fine looked at the interesting paintings.

Fred Fine  14:11
Oh, that's a really cool painting.

Barnabas  14:16
Said Fred  Fine to Great Greg.

During this time, the badguys were coming in.

Dangerous Dave  14:32
Sneak in quickly and quietly.

Barnabas  14:37
They did, and they were getting ready to do stuff, when all of a sudden, Horrible Hal said

Horrible Hal  14:52
Hey! I heard something.

Barnabas  14:59
Immediately after which, Steve said

I heard something.

Then, Dangerous Dave started listening, and said

Dangerous Dave  15:14
It's only the echo of your own voice.

Horrible Hal  15:18
Maybe, but I think it's more than that.

Barnabas  15:23
Said Horrible Hal. Then, the badguys went to a safe where the treasure not being used in current museum exhibits was kept.

Horrible Hal  15:37
Hmm. There seems to be a code that we have to solve.

Barnabas  15:48
Said Horrible Hal.

Dangerous Dave  15:53
It looks like Null Cipher.

Barnabas  15:57
Said Dangerous Dave. Dangerous Dave, The Evil Ant, Horrible Hal, Terrible Tim, and all the other members of the bad spy ring* started working on the coded lock while the goodguys came closer. Then, when the thieves were about to figure out the message, the goodguys jumped out of hiding and Police Chief Al and Fred Fine arrested the badguys. Then, the police officers said that they would take the the thieves to jail. During this time, Dangerous Dave and the evil Ant moved away from the goodguys, jumped, and ran away. Steve and Dan saw them escape.

They're escaping!

Called Steve. Then, all the goodguys went after them, but Dangerous Dave and the Evil Ant were too quick, and they had gone to far to follow.

Codemaster Cole  17:31
You'd better catch them.

Said Codemaster Cole to Steve and Dan.

Footnote: When the goodguys went back to the museum, they discovered that the other badguys had left.

The story from episode 5; Codebreaking.

Steve and Dan are shadowing the Evil Ant. They followed him past stores, past houses, past the fire station and police station. They never got farther away from him, but they never got closer to him either. It was very frustrating. Then, the Evil Ant suddenly turned down an alleyway out of sight. They tried to follow him, but couldn't find him anywhere. Nowhere they looked could they find him. Not on a front porch, not behind the Bakery, nowhere. Then, Steve found a small piece of paper lying on the road. He picked it up. It had a coded message on it. They went back to their headquarters and reported all of this to Codemaster Cole, and they started trying to break the code. First, they checked it on a frequency chart. The most common letters were O and D. I won't go into the details, but Steve figured out the message, and it was:

The map is in danger. Meet me in front of the store. Be ready to leave.

They realized that the Evil Ant was going to meet with Dangerous Dave in front of the department store. Then, Steve, Dan, Codemaster Cole, and Caw the Crow went off to spy near the store. After a little while, they saw Evil Ant came, and then, a little while after that, Dangerous Dave came up. The Evil Ant gave Dangerous Dave 2 papers and said

Our next bank-robbing job is Tuesday.

Then, Dangerous Dave said

Dangerous Dave  21:17
Meet you there. and left.

Steve  21:22
Okay. Now we know the time of their next robbery, but we don't know the location.

Codemaster Cole  21:32
That's what we need to find out.

When the Evil Ant left the store, they started following him. Meanwhile, at the prison, Emily End had escaped! The jail guards hadn't seen anything, and the police were completely baffled. How did Emily End escape?

The story from episode 6, Caesar Shift Cipher.

I bet you all want to know what the Evil Ant did, but first, I need to tell you about Emily End's escape.

It was Terrible Tim who helped her. He sent a signal to her and she waved her arms so that he knew what sell she was in. He climbed up the side of the jail and removed the bars in Emily End's window with tools he had. Then got out through the window, and Terrible Tim put the bars back in and put his tools away. Then, he and Emily End climbed down the building.

I've escaped.

Said Emily End.

Terrible Tim  23:17
Yes you have.

Barnabas  23:20
Said Terrible Tim. When Terrible Tim put the bars in the window back in, the guard outside Emily End's cell heard, and so he opened the door and looked in. He saw an empty cell with no signs of escape. He reported it to the other guards in the prison.

Meanwhile, the Evil Ant, Codemaster Cole, Steve, and Dan kept going. Suddenly, Terrible Tim and Emily End came out of the trees. The Evil Ant and Terrible Tim talked for a little while. Then, the Evil Ant said

Meet me at the Headquarters.

Codemaster Cole  24:22
We should tell Fred Fine and Police Chief Al about it.

Barnabas  24:31
Said Codemaster Cole.

Steve  24:34
Yes we should!

Barnabas  24:35
Said Steve. They reported it to the Police Officers. Half an hour later, Steve, Dan, Codemaster Cole, Caw the Crow, Great Greg, Police Chief Al, and Fred Fine went to the bad spy HQ and hid. Dangerous Dave came soon after, then Terrible Tim and Emily End, then most of the other spies. Then Evil Ant. Then, Terrible Tim and Emily End told everyone what happened and Dangerous Dave told everyone about their bank robbery that Tuesday. He said

And our next job is Tuesday at the bank downtown.

And he began handing out sheets of paper in Caesar Shift Cipher that had more details about the robbery on them. Suddenly, the good spies and police officers jumped out of their hiding places and Fred and Al arrested the thieves.

We're trapped!

Said Emily End. After a trial, they all went to prison for 20 years (unless they escape, of course). THE END.

Dangerous Dave and the Evil Ant have been trying to escape from prison. They looked for cracks in the walls, floor, and ceiling that might make them able to pry up the floorboards. The Evil Ant even tried to climb up the walls! Finally, Dangerous Dave saw a vent in the wall and thought that they could just be able to fit inside if they crawled. Inside the vent, they somehow found a teleportation machine which they had somehow gotten into without knowing it. The Evil Ant accidentally pressed a button, and they were in Emily End's cell.

the Evil Ant said to her. Then, Dangerous Dave had an idea.

Dangerous Dave  28:00
How about we go somewhere other than the prison. It's a perfect escape plan.

Barnabas  28:10
The Evil Ant pressed a button, and they went away from the prison, but not to where they were thinking of. They went to the middle of the ocean! When they started sinking, the teleportation machine started malfunctioning, and it went strait back to the prison, and into their sell. THE END.
